Woodland Bushcraft Skills Day

Saturday 12th of March 2022

Ever wanted to know how to light a fire without matches? Or build a waterproof shelter just from what you find in the woods? Then the one day Woodland Bushcraft Skills Day is for you...

Could You start a fire without matches?

Introducing...

The Woodland Bushcraft Skills Day

Modern people have lost many of the skills our forebears took for granted. And we are the poorer for it. The UK is still has many beautiful and wild places but without the right skills and experience it can be really tough to feel connected to the land and to thrive on what it can provide.

Here are just some of the skills you will learn...

The specifics of what is included in your day is dependant on the time of year and the weather. But there are always plenty of fascinating skills to learn. Here are just some of the possible topics we will cover.

Fire Lighting

By the end of the day you will be able to light a fire with a ferro rod and striker and collect and prepare tinder, kindling and main fuel.

Shelter building

One of the best ways to enjoy the wilds is to sleep out under a tarp. You will learn how to setup a tarp for a comfortable night including the knots and how to improvise 'tent pegs'.

Water Purification

You won't last long without water. And you won't last long drinking dirty water. During the day you will learn how to filter and prepare water for safe drinking.

Knots, traps and campcraft

This is the section of the course where you will learn how fashion your own spatula for cooking and how you could catch small animals for food if the need arose.

The Woodland Bushcraft Skills Course is a one-day event that provides participants with the opportunity to learn core bushcraft skills. While the precise list of topics will be somewhat governed by weather and time of year, there is always lots to learn. This is perfect for all those outdoor enthusiasts looking to take on new adventures in a fun and relaxed setting!

About the instructor

Hi,

I'm  Daniel Whittaker

Former Royal Marine Commando turned bushcraft instructor.

I vividly remember my first night under a tarp falling asleep listening to the crackling of the fire and the distant mountain stream. While I can't remember the exact date it was more than 26 years ago!

Since then I have survived the rigours of military training from deep inside the arctic circle to the heat and humidity of the jungle in Belize.

And I had the privilege to have been trained by some outstanding woodsmen including Ray Mears and Dave Watson.
